I saw this video on buzzfeed and it reminded me of our discussion way back in the beginning of the year when we read Rich’s “Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Experience.” The video highlights how underrepresented the LGBTQ+ community is in media and how rare it is to see and an LGBT character in a starring role. In the video one of the men talks about tokenism and how just having one minor LGBT character in a movie/tv show is not good enough representation. Actually seeing the these recreated movie posters transformed really makes me hope that in the future there will be more main LGBT characters with authentic story lines besides the “gay best friend” trope.
